The Prodigal Machine Returns

I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned it before now, but a few months ago, I took George, my Brother DreamCreator VM5100, to live with my daughter. She wanted to start sewing, and I thought this would be a machine she could grow in to. Also, I hadn’t used George much, and I felt bad that he was just sitting here. But last month, I went and picked up George to bring him back home. Around the same time I sent George to my daughter’s house, my mother gave Kerstin her Brother 4000D sewing/embroidery combination machine, and she has a smaller mechanical Brother machine, so she’s not suffering for not having George, so don’t worry. I’m not sure how long George will stay here with me, but it will most definitely through the rest of the year. You see, I’m having trouble with the embroidery on Jake the Pfaff Creative 4.5.

This is not the time of year for me to start having such issues. Yes, I still have Bertha, the Brother Persona 100, but she needs a serious cleaning, and right now I can’t her to the dealer to have that done. And if I keep George here, I may try once again to sell Bertha. Four machines is more than this quilter needs, quite frankly. I could use the money from the sale of Bertha for something else …

But I digress. George is back home and hopefully ready to do my bidding. I’m a bit put out with Jake, though, because he was just off for a spa day back in April. I’m not sure what’s happened to him, but there is an issue with him embroidering on quilts. My mom said that her Creative Sensation has the same issue, so maybe it’s a limitation of the machine? When I tried a sample of the very simple design I want to stitch on Prairie Life, Jake did a stellar job. I did two layers of quilting cotton with a batting sandwiched between, and he did a fine job with it. But when it came time to stitch out the very same design on the quilt, he choked.

I haven’t tried anything else embroidery-wise on Jake, but I have concerns because at least two of the Christmas gifts I want to make are in the hoop embroidery designs. I cannot afford to have issues stitching them out, which is why George is back home now.

I will be posting some items I make with George, so stay tuned!
