Fabric Everywhere!

For Mother’s Day this year, my kids gave me a very nice gift card to Fat Quarter Shop. Fat Quarter Shop (FQS) is probably one of my favorite places to shop online. I’ve been ordering from Kimberly Jolly since she started shipping fabric from her home back in the early 2000s. I think she only sold one or two fabric lines back then, Moda and maybe something else. I just remember the Moda, because a lot of my stash came from those early days and it’s all Moda. lol

I shop at my LQS all the time, and they get a fair amount of my money. But it’s a smaller shop, and honestly, they just do not have the room to carry all the things that FQS carries. Don’t get me wrong; I love my LQS and I spend more money in there than I care to think about. They just don’t carry some of the designers I really love, and they don’t usually have a lot of fat quarter bundles. I have a lot of fabric, both yardage and precuts. I’ve decided recently that for now, I’ll be buying fat quarter bundles, because I want to make more scrappy quilts, but I want them to be a “coordinated scrappy” look. I know, I know, I’m insane.

When I want to shop for fabric online, FQS is my first (and often only) stop. She’s in the Austin area, so she’s fairly close to me. If I order fabric by Wednesday, I almost always have it for the weekend. Their customer service is outstanding. And oh my goodness, have you seen the fabrics they stock?!

In a word, beautiful.

So when the kids presented me with a gift card from FQS, well, first of all, boy, do they know me! And secondly, I couldn’t wait to head over and look at what I could buy. Of course I had things on my wish list, but it never hurts to browse a little as well, does it?

Long story short, I ended up spending all of the gift card plus a good chunk of my own money because I’m weak, all the fabric is beautiful on that site, and I have no control. You wouldn’t have any control, either, if you saw fabrics like this.

So many gorgeous colors! As you know, or maybe you don’t, I have been a Lori Holt fangirl for years now, and I have a fair amount of fabric from her lines. Before Lori, I was never the type to buy fabric based on designer, and I rarely bought fat quarter bundles. But over the years, I’ve become a convert to both choosing fabrics by designer and big fat quarter bundles. I have a few of her collections, and what I love most about them is that I can mix and match prints, and they all coordinate.

This new Lori Holt fabric bundle is her Americana line, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. I am a sucker for patriotic fabrics, I think because they invoke a sense of summer for me. These fabrics are beautiful. I’m thinking of using them in the Kimberbell Star Bangled Beauty ladder quilt. And maybe the Sweet Land of Liberty pillow.

But while I was perusing Lori Holt’s fabrics, I ran across this absolutely stunning offering by Camille Roskelley called Shoreline. What am I going to do with it? Who cares! Look at how beautiful these blues and greens are! /sigh This is some of the prettiest fabric I’ve seen in a while. I think I’m in love.

And while I was eyeing Shoreline, I saw Camille’s Nantucket Summer, which isn’t out yet, but is being released in July. If you think I was crazy enough to pre-order another large bundle of fabric, well, you’re absolutely correct. I told you I’m weak. But these are some drool worthy fabrics and I regret nothing.

I then found Laguna Sunrise by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics, and OMG. What a beautiful, bright bundle. This is my first Sherri and Chelsi bundle, but it won’t be the last. It’s so pretty, and it brings to mind hot summer days and lawn sprinklers with kids running through. These colors are to die for, and I’m here for them all.

Of course, I had to add the coordinating solids for Laguna Sunrise. I’m not a huge fan of solids by themselves, but when you pair them with coordinating prints, it’s hard to resist.

Last but not least, I ordered Fiesta by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda Fabrics. Again, beautiful, bright fabrics that remind me of summer, but more the shady front porch summer instead of the running around in the sprinklers summer. I think these colors are so pretty!

So there ya have it – enough fabrics for probably at least four throw quilts, and probably a lot more than that. What am I going to do with them all? Well … I don’t know just yet. But they all lend themselves to beautiful scrappy quilts, which is sort of the direction I’ve been heading recently. I certainly didn’t need all of this fabric, but with the uncertainty of international trade right now, and the potential for rising fabric costs, I’m glad I added a few more bundles to my stash. If I don’t use them all soon, that’s ok; they don’t go bad, and bundles coordinate. lol

What fabrics are you eyeing these days? Anything you’ve had your eye on recently? Let me know in the comments!
