Dr Who – The TARDIS Quilt

Chris is a HUGE fan of Dr. Who, and has been for many years now. So when I saw a TARDIS quilt on Pinterest, I had to come up with something similar for him, because I knew he would love it. I was never able to track down definitively the person who first conceived of the idea of this quilt, so if you know who it was, please let me know so I can give them credit.

My version is slightly different from others that I’ve seen, which is one of the best things about being a quilter. You do not have to follow a pattern precisely to get great results. I’m very happy with how my quilt turned out.

Many of the fabrics I used were fat quarters I’ve collected over the years. I did purchase a few pieces, but I can’t give you any specifics on them, because most of them didn’t have the manufacturer information on the selvedge.

Total time to get the quilt top finished was maybe three to four weeks, and it could have been done much sooner, if I’d had all of the fabrics together before I started. I ending up purchasing all of the light blue and yellow for the panels in the TARDIS, and then I ran out of orange, so back to the quilt shop I went, to pick up a few more. Of course this means that there’s not really an even distribution of fabric throughout the orange, but as my mother would say, No one’s going to see it on a galloping horse. And, since it’s just for use by us, I don’t really care if there aren’t any of X fabric on the right or the left of the TARDIS. I mean, on this quilt, if you can tell that the fabrics aren’t evenly distributed, you really need more do with your life. LOL

I even have a quilting plan, if you can believe it!

I plan to back the quilt with the outer border fabric, so I will likely get started on that today. It would be so very nice if I could have this one finished soon, and if I maintain my momentum, I just may have it backed, quilted and bound in the next couple of weeks.

Fingers crossed I maintain the momentum!
