Hi, Happy Friday! I hope you’ve been having a good week. Mine has been a bit of a mixed bag, but I did get some progress made in the studio, and I thought I’d do a quick update about it.
I finished making all of the blocks for my Spare Squares quilt, from Lori Holt’s Scrappiness is Happiness book. I started working on this quilt back in December, I think, but now I can start assembling the top. I’ve already purchased backing and binding, so once the quilt top is together, I should be able to finish it fairly quickly.

I also managed to get the Fishy Quilt sandwiched and I started to quilt it. I made this quilt top for my daughter many years ago (more than 20 years ago, and we’ll leave it at that), so I’m excited to get it finished. Once I started quilting it, I started to have issues. I’m using a Kimberbell large scale background quilting design, which is wildly adorable on this quilt. On the first run, part of my quilt somehow became unhooped and twice my embroidery foot somehow managed to slide between the quilt top and the batting along the edge of the quilt. Then on the second run, my needle broke. When removing the hoop from the machine to change the needle, because the hoop was too far back for me to safely reach it, the magnetic hoop came apart and unhooped the quilt. So now I’m going to have to rip out the stitches on the second run and start over. This time, I won’t be using a magnetic hoop, because for some reason it’s not working this time.

But the biggest news this week was that I made it into the studio every day, even if it wasn’t for the full three hours I wanted to spend in there. I have been able to create and maintain momentum, because I’m not walking in there each morning wondering where to start. Every day, I leave my studio with the knowledge of what I want and/or need to do the next morning, which creates excitement and desire to return to the studio. I made meaningful progress on two projects in my studio this week, with plans to spend this morning’s session working on my Kimberbell Mistletoe Mystery quilt. Since I’ve only done the first month, and it started in January, I have my work cut out for me. But I’m looking forward to going into the studio and getting one or two more blocks done today.
What were you able to get done this week? Any significant progress in the studio? Let me know in the comments!
